Vehicle Fitments
This JDM J35A long block is designed for the following North American (USDM) models:
-
2003-2006 Acura MDX (Base and Touring)
Installation & Technical Notes
The J35A is a "bulletproof" engine, but a successful JDM swap requires transferring specific USDM components to satisfy the North American ECU:
-
Long Block Conversion: This sale includes the engine block, cylinder heads, and internal rotating assembly. You must transfer your original USDM intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, wiring harness, and all sensors (Crank, Cam, and Knock) to ensure the engine is plug-and-play with your Acura's electronics.
-
EGR System: Ensure you clean your original EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve before transferring it to the new engine. Clogged EGR ports are a common cause of rough idling in the J-series.
-
Oil Filter Housing: Depending on the donor vehicle, you may need to swap your original USDM oil filter housing/adapter to ensure proper clearance for the MDX subframe.
-
Essential Maintenance: We strongly recommend replacing the following parts during the swap:
-
Timing Belt Kit: Replace the belt, water pump, and hydraulic tensioner (Interference Engine).
-
Spark Plugs: NGK Laser Iridium (IZFR5K11).
-
Rear Main Seal: Significantly easier to replace while the engine is out.
-
Engine Oil: 5W-20 Full Synthetic Oil.
-
-
VTEC Solenoid: Inspect the VTEC solenoid screen for debris. A clean screen ensures smooth VTEC engagement at higher RPMs.
