Installation & Technical Notes
The Acura RL’s J35A is a high-performance "interference" engine. To ensure a successful installation and maintain your warranty, please follow these technical guidelines:

Long Block Conversion: This sale includes the engine block, cylinder heads, and internal rotating assembly. You must transfer your original USDM intake manifold (with the magnesium cover), exhaust manifolds, wiring harness, and all sensors (Crank, Cam, and Knock) to ensure 100% compatibility with the SH-AWD system and ECU.

SH-AWD Compatibility: Retain your original RL oil pan and transmission stay brackets. These are specific to the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive drivetrain and are required for proper subframe and transfer case clearance.

Knock Sensors: We strongly recommend replacing the knock sensors located in the engine "valley" while the intake manifold is removed for the swap.

Essential Maintenance: We strongly recommend replacing the following parts during the swap:

Timing Belt Kit: Replace the belt, water pump, and hydraulic tensioner (Interference Engine).

Spark Plugs: NGK Laser Iridium (IZFR6K11).

Rear Main Seal: Significantly easier to replace while the engine is out.

Engine Oil: 5W-20 or 5W-30 Full Synthetic Oil.

Fuel Requirement: Due to the high 11.0:1 compression ratio, this engine requires 91 octane premium fuel or higher to prevent detonation and ignition timing retard.
