Vehicle Fitments

This JDM H22A Euro R engine is a premium swap candidate for the following North American (USDM) models:

  • 1997-2001 Honda Prelude (Base and Type SH)

  • 1992-1996 Honda Prelude (H-Series swap)

  • 1990-1997 Honda Accord (Popular H22 swap chassis)

  • 1994-2001 Acura Integra (Requires aftermarket swap mounts and axles)

Installation & Technical Notes

As a high-performance VTEC engine requiring a rebuild, please note the following technical details:

  • The Euro R Advantage: This engine includes the specific Euro R single-runner intake manifold and the "Red Top" valve cover. These parts alone are highly valuable for H-series enthusiasts.

  • Cylinder 3 Status: The low compression in Cylinder 3 may be attributed to a burnt valve, worn piston rings, or a head gasket breach. A full teardown is recommended before installation.

  • FRM Liners: Please remember that H22A blocks use FRM (Fiber Reinforced Metal) sleeves. If you choose to bore the engine out during the rebuild, you must use FRM-compatible pistons or have the block sleeved with iron liners for traditional forged pistons.

  • OBD Compatibility: This engine is originally OBD2. When installing into an OBD1 chassis (92-95 Civic/90-93 Accord), you must use an OBD1 H22A distributor and an unchipped P13 or chipped P28 ECU.

  • Essential Maintenance (Post-Rebuild): Once rebuilt, we recommend:

    • Timing Belt & Manual Tensioner Conversion: We strongly suggest converting from the failure-prone auto-tensioner to a manual tensioner kit.

    • Valve Adjustment: Set to Euro R factory clearances for optimal VTEC engagement.

    • Fuel: 91+ Octane is mandatory for the 11.0:1 compression ratio.
